Our Hastings day trip gives you the freedom to enjoy this historic seaside town at your own pace, while also providing the opportunity to experience the lively atmosphere of the annual Jack in the Green celebrations. With music, dancing, colourful costumes, Morris dancers and the spectacular Jack himself, the town comes alive with a wonderful festival atmosphere.
Experience Hastings Jack in the Green
Taking place over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend, the Hastings Jack in the Green celebrations are one of the town’s most distinctive annual traditions. Monday 3rd May is traditionally the grand finale, making this an excellent opportunity to experience the celebrations at their best.
Join the crowds and soak up the atmosphere as the festivities bring Hastings Old Town to life. Look out for the colourful Grand Procession, enjoy live performances and watch traditional dancing and entertainment throughout the day. It is a unique celebration with a fantastic community spirit and plenty of photo opportunities.
Discover Hastings Old Town
Away from the festivities, there is plenty to explore. Take a leisurely stroll through the atmospheric Hastings Old Town, with its narrow streets, historic buildings, independent shops, cafés, pubs and galleries.
Wander along George Street and explore the famous ‘twittens’ – the narrow passageways that weave through the Old Town – or simply find a café and watch the world go by.
Enjoy the Seafront & The Stade
No visit to Hastings would be complete without spending some time beside the sea. Head towards The Stade, the town’s historic fishing quarter, where you can see the famous black net huts and fishing boats.
Enjoy a traditional seaside lunch, browse the independent shops, treat yourself to an ice cream or simply take a relaxing walk along the promenade while enjoying the sea air.

Hastings is packed with attractions and things to discover. History lovers could explore the remains of Hastings Castle, visit the Fishermen’s Museum or discover the fascinating stories of the town’s smuggling past.
