Trip Details
Join Richard Taylor Travel for a wonderful day out in Henley-on-Thames, one of England’s most picturesque riverside towns. Famous for its rowing heritage and beautiful setting on the River Thames, Henley offers something for everyone, whether you enjoy shopping, sightseeing, walking, history, good food or simply relaxing.
Our visit is particularly well timed as Thursday 27 May 2027 is the fourth Thursday of the month, when Henley hosts both its regular Thursday Charter Market and Farmers’ Market in the historic
Market Place. Browse local produce, food, crafts and other stalls before exploring the surrounding streets.
Henley’s attractive town centre is easy to explore on foot, with independent shops, boutiques, galleries, antique shops and cafés along Hart Street, Bell Street, Duke Street and Friday Street. History enthusiasts can enjoy the town’s historic buildings and visit St Mary’s Church, while the Kenton Theatre, one of Britain’s oldest working theatres, offers an interesting glimpse into Henley’s cultural heritage.
No visit would be complete without seeing the River Thames and Henley Bridge. Take a leisurely stroll along the riverside and Thames Path towards Mill Meadows, a peaceful green space offering beautiful river views and opportunities to sit and relax. You may even spot rowers and boats enjoying this famous stretch of the Thames.
For those looking for something different, seasonal boat trips and river cruises provide an opportunity to see Henley from the water. Alternatively, simply find a riverside bench, enjoy an ice cream and watch the world go by.
There are plenty of places to eat and enjoy refreshments. Popular options include The Angel on the Bridge, with its riverside terrace, The Bull on Bell Street, a historic coaching inn, and Piccolino in the Market Place. For coffee and cake, customers can try Berries Coffee, Spoon Café, Lucy's Courtyard Café or Hot Gossip Coffeehouse.
Customers wishing to explore beyond Henley can also consider Greys Court, a National Trust historic house and gardens just outside the town, although independent transport would be required.
Whether you spend your day shopping, exploring the markets, walking beside the Thames, enjoying lunch, discovering Henley’s history or simply relaxing with a coffee, Henley-on-Thames is the perfect destination for a leisurely day at your own pace.
