Join Richard Taylor Travel for a fascinating day out in Ironbridge, a beautiful riverside town at the heart of the Ironbridge Gorge UNESCO World Heritage Site. Famous as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, Ironbridge combines fascinating history, stunning scenery, independent shops and excellent places to eat and relax.

The town’s most famous landmark is the Iron Bridge, completed in 1779 and recognised as the world’s first cast-iron bridge. Take a walk across this remarkable structure, enjoy views along the River Severn and visit the historic Tollhouse.

Ironbridge WWII Weekend – Provisional for 2027

Our visit is planned to coincide with the Ironbridge World War II Weekend, which is expected to take place over the weekend of 29–30 May 2027 at Dale End Park, subject to final confirmation from the event organisers.

This popular event brings the sights and sounds of the 1940s to Ironbridge, with previous events featuring WWII displays, period entertainment, historic and military vehicles, vintage stalls, re-enactors and a variety of themed activities. Previous programmes have also included flypasts, adding to the atmosphere of this special weekend.

The event provides an exciting additional reason to visit Ironbridge, with visitors able to combine the WWII Weekend with time to explore the historic town, riverside and surrounding attractions.

Please note: The Ironbridge WWII Weekend dates and programme for 2027 are currently awaiting official confirmation. The event is not operated by Richard Taylor Travel and all advertised activities, displays and entertainment are subject to the event organiser and may be changed or cancelled.

Discover the Ironbridge Gorge

There is plenty to discover within the wider Ironbridge Gorge. History enthusiasts can visit Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron, explore the Old Furnace and discover the story of Abraham Darby and the development of ironmaking. Blists Hill Victorian Town offers a fascinating step back in time, with historic buildings, traditional shops, craftspeople and demonstrations bringing Victorian life to life. Other attractions include the Jackfield Tile Museum, Coalport China Museum, Enginuity and Museum of the Gorge.

For those who prefer a more relaxed day, Ironbridge itself is perfect for exploring at leisure. Wander along the Wharfage, browse independent shops and galleries, or enjoy a peaceful walk beside the River Severn. The surrounding Gorge also offers attractive walking routes through woodland and countryside.

There are plenty of places to stop for refreshments. Darby's of Ironbridge, Courtyard Café, Truffles Café and Brick and Beyond are popular options for coffee, cake or a light lunch. For a more substantial meal, customers can consider riverside pubs and restaurants including The White Hart, The Swan Taphouse and The Water Rat Inn.

Families will particularly enjoy Blists Hill and the interactive experiences at Enginuity, while visitors interested in heritage can spend the day exploring the remarkable industrial history of the Gorge.

With its world-famous bridge, UNESCO heritage, beautiful riverside setting, museums, historic attractions, independent shops and welcoming cafés and pubs, Ironbridge offers something for everyone.

Whether you choose to experience the anticipated World War II Weekend, explore the fascinating history, enjoy a riverside stroll, discover the shops or simply relax with a coffee and take in the scenery, our day trip gives you the freedom to enjoy Ironbridge at your own pace.
