Trip Details

Step aboard for a delightful day of heritage, history and timeless charm as we combine one of England's most elegant spa towns with one of Britain's finest preserved steam railways.

Our day begins in the beautiful town of Royal Tunbridge Wells, a fashionable destination since the 17th century when its natural chalybeate spring first attracted royalty and visitors seeking its reputed healing waters. Today, this sophisticated Kent town offers an irresistible blend of history, independent shopping and picturesque surroundings.

Enjoy free time to explore the famous Pantiles, a charming Georgian colonnade lined with boutique shops, cafés, restaurants and galleries. Browse the unique independent retailers, relax with a coffee or lunch, admire the elegant architecture or take a leisurely stroll through the attractive streets and gardens. Whether you're looking for a little retail therapy, fascinating history or simply a relaxing morning in beautiful surroundings, Royal Tunbridge Wells has something for everyone.

In the afternoon we head into the heart of the Sussex countryside to experience the wonderful Bluebell Railway, one of Britain's best-loved heritage railways and the country's first preserved standard gauge passenger railway. Since opening in 1960, the railway has become renowned for its beautifully restored steam locomotives, vintage carriages and immaculately preserved stations.

Settle back and enjoy a nostalgic steam-hauled journey through approximately 11 miles of stunning Sussex scenery, passing rolling countryside, ancient woodland and picturesque villages. The railway's authentic stations, many restored to different historical periods, create the feeling of stepping back into the golden age of rail travel. Throughout your journey you'll experience the sights, sounds and unmistakable atmosphere of traditional steam railways that have delighted generations of visitors.

With the elegance of Royal Tunbridge Wells combined with the romance and nostalgia of a classic steam railway, this wonderful excursion offers the perfect mix of sightseeing, relaxation and heritage. Whether you're a railway enthusiast, history lover or simply looking for a memorable day out, this is an excursion not to be missed.
