Canterbury on Market Day
Historic Streets, Traditional Market, Shopping & Riverside Charm
Join Richard Taylor Travel for a wonderful day out in the historic cathedral city of Canterbury, one of England’s most fascinating and attractive destinations. Combining centuries of history with excellent shopping, independent boutiques, cafés, restaurants and a bustling traditional market, Canterbury has all the ingredients for a thoroughly enjoyable day at your own pace.
At the heart of the city stands magnificent Canterbury Cathedral, one of England’s most important historic landmarks and part of Canterbury’s UNESCO World Heritage Site. With a history stretching back more than 1,400 years, the Cathedral has welcomed generations of pilgrims and visitors from around the world. Those wishing to visit can purchase admission separately, subject to opening times and availability.
Our visit has been planned to coincide with Canterbury Market, when the city centre takes on an extra buzz. Browse the market
stalls and see what catches your eye, before exploring Canterbury’s wonderful mixture of familiar high-street names and smaller independent businesses.
Away from the main shopping streets, discover the characterful lanes and historic quarters surrounding the Cathedral. The King’s
Mile and Cathedral Quarter are particularly enjoyable for browsing, with independent shops, gifts, crafts, food and specialist retailers tucked amongst some of the city’s beautiful historic buildings.
There is plenty to discover beyond the shops too. Take a leisurely stroll through the picturesque Westgate Gardens, where pathways follow the River Stour beneath mature trees and colourful planting, or admire the impressive medieval Westgate Towers. Depending on the season, you could even enjoy a relaxing punt or boat trip along the River Stour.
Canterbury is also an excellent destination for simply finding a comfortable café, traditional pub or restaurant and watching the world go by. Whether you come for the history, the market, the shopping or simply a change of scenery, you'll have free time to enjoy Canterbury in whichever way suits you.
With Richard Taylor Travel taking care of the driving, all you need to do is sit back, relax and enjoy a memorable day in one of Kent’s most historic cities.
Please note: This is a coach travel and free-time excursion. Admission to attractions, including Canterbury Cathedral, and optional activities are not included unless otherwise stated.
