Leicester – Market Day & City Explorer
Discover one of the Midlands’ most fascinating cities on our day trip to Leicester, where more than 2,000 years of history meet bustling markets, excellent shopping, fascinating attractions and a onderfully diverse food scene.
Travelling with Richard Taylor Travel means you can simply sit back, relax and enjoy the journey before arriving in Leicester for plenty of free time to explore the city at your own pace.
Explore Leicester Market
One of the highlights of your visit is the opportunity to browse Leicester Market, which has a remarkable history stretching back more than 700 years. Market trading in the city was recorded as early as 1298, making it an important part of Leicester life for generations.
Browse the stalls, soak up the atmosphere and explore the surrounding city-centre shops.
Discover the Story of Richard III
History lovers will find plenty to discover. Leicester became internationally famous following the remarkable discovery of the remains of King Richard III beneath a city-centre car park in 2012.
You could visit the award-winning King Richard III Visitor Centre, which tells the extraordinary story of the king’s life, death and rediscovery, before visiting nearby Leicester Cathedral, his final resting place.
Close by you'll also find the medieval Leicester Guildhall, whose Great Hall dates from 1390, while those wanting to discover another chapter of the city's past can explore its Roman heritage.
Shopping, Museums & The Lanes
If shopping is more your style, spend some time exploring Leicester's pedestrianised city centre, browse the shops at Highcross Leicester, or wander through The Lanes, where you'll discover independent shops, cafés and plenty of places to stop for lunch.
Alternatively, take a stroll along historic New Walk to Leicester Museum & Art Gallery, with collections covering everything from dinosaurs and Ancient Egypt to art and Leicester's own story.
With history, shopping, culture, food and one of Britain's longest established markets all within a compact city centre, Leicester gives you the freedom to create a day out that suits you.
