Salisbury – Historic City & Charter Market Day Trip

Discover one of England’s most beautiful and historic cathedral cities with a relaxing day trip to Salisbury, perfectly timed for the city’s traditional Tuesday Charter Market.

Surrounded by the picturesque Wiltshire countryside, Salisbury is a wonderful destination for a leisurely day out, combining centuries of history, magnificent architecture, independent shopping, cafés and restaurants with the bustling atmosphere of one of the country’s longest-running markets.

At the heart of the city is the historic Salisbury Charter Market, a tradition dating back to 1227. Held in the Market Place every Tuesday, the market brings together a varied selection of stalls selling everything from fresh produce, cheeses and flowers to clothing, accessories, collectables and gifts. There is also a tempting choice of street food, making the Market Place a lively place to explore during your visit.

Beyond the market, Salisbury’s attractive city centre is ideal for discovering on foot. Wander through historic streets and medieval passageways, browse a mixture of familiar high-street names and independent shops, or simply find a welcoming café and enjoy watching the world go by.

No visit to Salisbury would be complete without seeing the magnificent Salisbury Cathedral, whose famous 123-metre spire dominates the city skyline. Set within the beautiful Cathedral Close, the Cathedral is home to an original 1215 Magna Carta and the world’s oldest working mechanical clock. Cathedral admission is not included in your coach fare, allowing you the freedom to decide how you would like to spend your day.

The surrounding Cathedral Close is an attraction in itself, with impressive historic buildings, peaceful lawns and plenty of opportunities for photographs. History lovers can also discover more of Salisbury’s fascinating heritage throughout the city, which stretches back hundreds of years.

Whether you spend your day browsing the Charter Market, exploring the Cathedral, shopping, enjoying a leisurely lunch or simply wandering through Salisbury’s historic streets, you’ll have plenty of free time to experience the city at your own pace.

Sit back, relax and let Richard Taylor Travel take care of the driving while you enjoy a wonderful day discovering Salisbury.
