Your visit begins by discovering the remarkable history of the Silverstone site. Long before the roar of racing engines, the area had connections with a medieval priory, a country estate and, during the Second World War, RAF Silverstone. Discover how the former airfield was transformed into a racing circuit and hosted its first motor race in 1948.
From there, step into the world of British motorsport and explore an impressive collection of racing cars, motorcycles, memorabilia and displays celebrating more than 75 years of racing at Silverstone. The museum is also home to the official collection of the British Racing Drivers' Club, meaning the vehicles and memorabilia on display can change over time.
This isn't simply a museum where everything sits behind glass. With more than 60 interactive displays across 10 different zones, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved. Discover the science and engineering behind motorsport, test your reactions, explore racing technology and experience the sights, sounds and atmosphere of a race day.
You'll journey through different eras of motorsport, from the pioneering racers of the 1940s, 50s and 60s through to the technological developments that have shaped modern racing.
One of the highlights comes at the end of your museum journey with The Ultimate Lap. Take your seat in the special-effects cinema and relive some of Silverstone's most memorable racing moments in an exhilarating finale featuring commentary from famous voices including Murray Walker, Martin Brundle and David Croft.
Depending on the date and circuit activity, visitors may also have the opportunity to explore the outdoor Heritage Track Trail, which takes you closer to parts of the historic circuit. Please note that access to the trail is subject to availability and circuit events.
There is also time to visit the museum shop for motorsport gifts and souvenirs or enjoy refreshments in the on-site Refuel Café.
